Thank you college!
Forgive me. This is me needing to clear my mind. I do not intend on offending anyone.
Ever wonder if college is worth it? The late nights. The stress. The bullshit. I know I have once or twice, but you know how you find out if getting a college education is worth it? Work in retail. I promise you, it will make you realize how fortunate you are. I’ve done retail for a few years now and don’t get me wrong I like my current job, but it is my job and not my career for a reason. I couldn’t imagine being 24/7/365 at a retail store and being a minion for corporate my whole life. Sure you might climb the ladder and become a manager and get the honor of wearing a different color shirt than everyone else, but really? C’mon. How could you not want more out of life? I mean it is not my place to judge people because you never know circumstances. But I have come across many educated people, who I personally think could do more with their life. Needless to say I am grateful for the people who are working retail as their career and let me see why it is not what I want.
I am never more thankful and driven for my college education then when I come home from a long day at work. I am grateful that I will not have to work retail because I have no other choice. If for some reason I do work retail again after my current job than it will be by choice, but I can honestly say I do not see that happening. I cannot wait to start my career in public relations after I graduate; it can’t come soon enough.
Again, this post is not intended to hurt anyone and I give it up to the people who chose to work retail as their career, but it is not for me. Not now. Not ever.
I completely agree with you, Drew.
Our college degree will take us far in life. Continue to write about what affects you most.
retail is poop. but u make shopping a pleasure! and i looovee shopping!
Ihave yet to work in retail, but let me tell you… answering phones at a dealership will make you love your college education even more.
But today after sitting in Dr. Batchelor’s class I got to thinking, are we really learning anything? I haven’t really had any “ah has!” yet. I think it is all about the experience. I rather be spending most of my day learning from real experiences then sitting in a class room trying to figure it all out from a lecture. So as much as I really appreciate college and all it has to offer, I can’t wait to get out and get REAL experience.
